Jaded
by Eric Smith (1999)

I wrote this before Aerosmith’s song, bearing the same name, was popular.  It’s about someone who turned away from God in early adulthood.  Written from God’s perspective,  He is urging this person to return to him before s/he becomes so jaded that s/he is unable to hear Him knocking at his/her door.

Do you ever feel good inside
Why do you have to hide?
I just want to know your name
Waiting for you to feel the same

When you were young you were so naïve
Now that your old you won’t be decieved

Think you know what life’s about
At age 19 you’d figured it out
Your Mom and Dad got nothing to say
Live their lives, I’ll go my own way

When you were young, you used to believe
Now that you’re old you feel decieved

All your colors have faded
All you say seems jaded

I know there’s something behind those eyes
Something there that’s been disguised
What will it take to set you free
Will you ever turn to me?

When you were young, you used to smile
Now you’re old, it’s not worth the while

Do you ever feel all alone?
Or strong enough to be on your own?
I just want to be your friend
Knock on the door, won’t you let me in

All your colors have faded
All you say seems jaded
All that you hear seems dated
Please don’t become enervated
