By Eric Smith (2000)
This is a song about trying to get lasting fulfillment from the world and failing (Kosmos meaning “world” in Greek). It starts at my first birth and ends at my second.
It
was the winter of '65, when I first met you
Didn't
like you then, but I got used to you
It
came without warning, into the blinding light
Didn’t
ask to see but I’d been given sight
And
all the things I saw with my eyes
Their
attainment failed to satisfied
I
was never satisfied
It
was the winter of '75, 10 years of living with you
It
would take 10 more, before I was through with you
The
bells and the whistles, the silver and gold
The
blind hope of never growing old
And
all the things I tasted with my tongue
Didn’t
take away the pain, they just left me numb
Just
left me numb
By
the time it was ’85, nothing left to do
Coupland
said it would happen, we cannot make life new
It
was Life after God and Generation X
Noting
left to give, nothing left to expect
And
all the things I desired in my heart
Didn’t
hold me together, they tore me apart
And
all the things I saw with my eyes
Their
attainment failed to satisfied
And
what you promised, it never came true
That’s
when I decided I was through with you
I was through with you
