Speed

Don’t be a runner!

I tried to tell you what was true, Not trying to tell you what to do

You never heard a word I said, You never saw the light turn red

You just kept your foot upon the gas

Driving away much too fast

I tried to reach you on the phone, not surprised you were not home

A thousand messages I did leave, tried not to beg tried not to plead

Your just running from your past

You’re running away much too fast

How much longer can this last?

How much time before you crash?

Another light has turned red, but your foot has turned to lead

Another signal that you ignore, another signal like the one before

I saw her just the other day

This is what she had to say

Said she didn’t get too far

She lost control and crashed her car

I tried to tell you what was true, not trying to tell you what to do

You never heard a word I said, you never saw the light turn red

No more running from her past

She took her foot off of the gas

The thrill of running runs out fast

She’s trading it in for something that lasts
